The destruction of the Earth should not only be seen as something bad; it makes us realize the essentials of life and start appreciating our loved ones better. - Jan Söderqvist

I have to admit that I'm torn after watching "2012". On the one hand, Emmerich delivers exactly what was promised: the end of the world with extra butter on top. At the same time, he completely derails and piles on the family cuteness, pretentious speeches, and violins to such a degree that the action feast often loses its momentum. - Nils Karlén

Unfortunately, Emmerich doesn't dare to take the step all the way. It's as if he doesn't trust that we can handle the armageddon anxiety and safeguards with sweetness and a few too many humorous doomsday jokes. - Miranda Sigander

I am particularly impressed by the scenes with the arks towards the end, when the movie takes on the characteristics of old science fiction.

It must be some form of malpractice to spend so much time and money on special effects and then waste them in this way. - Emma Gray Munthe
