4 / 5
Translated from swedish: Everyone involved does a fine job and the whole thing is a really solid production. The gorgeous landscape panoramas actually put the finishing touch on things, rather than becoming mere postcards. When all is said and done, there are scenes and characters left that are worth remembering. There's something old-fashioned about "Blood Diamond", but it's definitely not stale.

Translated from swedish: Even though we might be tempted to tears toward the end, this is powerfully counteracted by DiCaprio's consistent portrayal of a cold-hearted racist and egotist.

8 / 10
Translated from swedish: The nail-biting moments and intensity in certain scenes become the lasting impression while the political plea for morality and an end to the diamond trade takes a backseat.

Translated from swedish: What elevates the film is how it portrays both the brutal civil war and the uncomfortable truth that it's the Western world's desire for diamonds that causes the misery.

Translated from swedish: The film pedagogically explains how Africa is exploited in the pursuit of diamonds meant to be worn by wealthy white women, and how the money finances the ongoing civil wars. The intention is there, but hardly the right feeling. However, the ambition and purpose should absolutely not be diminished.

3 / 5
Translated from swedish: Despite a questionable African accent, Leo emerges as a full-fledged action hero, an important message is delivered through dialogue, and Africa is portrayed as the dirty, wonderful, rich and impoverished contradiction it is and always has been. But given the hard-to-swallow lessons being served up, you might want to skip the popcorn.

Translated from swedish: Leonardo DiCaprio as a cynical diamond smuggler in war-torn Sierra Leone represents Hollywood's latest attempt to merge political debate with entertainment.

Translated from swedish: The opening scenes depict a brutal massacre. Cut. The next scene takes place at a G8 meeting about the diamond trade.

Translated from swedish: At times the film is very thrilling and on par with any well-made political drama-action flick out there. But far too often, three stereotypes emerge: the white African who carries inherited evil in the form of colonization, the black African who is good and just wants to live his life peacefully with his people, and the brave, world-improving journalist. Some of their dialogue feels more like talking points from a public debate than something people would actually say during moments of extreme stress. However, the film still manages to shed light on the issue of so-called conflict diamond trading in an entertaining way. And it engages better than much else in the politically charged thriller genre, despite the stereotypes. Decent suspense with a conscience, you could sum up the film.

Translated from swedish: Somewhere in the middle of this wildly gesticulating action film, Jennifer Connelly stands outside a refugee camp overflowing with poor and desperate Africans, driven from their homes and land by a rebel army of brainwashed child soldiers, and says something bitter about how this disaster might flicker by for a few seconds on CNN somewhere between sports and weather. So African misery serves as an element of exotic entertainment in the West's constantly grinding media spectacle. And this is said during a brief pause between violent showdowns with automatic weapons and machetes in a thrilling film adventure starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

4 / 10
Translated from swedish: Despite having all the ingredients for so much more, somewhere in his eagerness to make a big film, Zwick forgot to make a decent one. This doesn't stop DiCaprio from growing into one of our time's most exciting actors with each wrinkle that's added to his face.

1. Aftonbladet
Translated from swedish: The opening sequence is among the most brutal and genuinely shocking I've seen in a major motion picture - women, men, and children are shot, arms are hacked off, scenes of panic and blood spraying everywhere. At the same time, the film is entertaining in many ways and incredibly gripping, and they've also managed to weave in a love story without it feeling forced.
