The zombies are so clearly a metaphor for something else. It is comical and amusingly silly and never really scary - which in a way I don't think is the intention either. - Rosemari Södergren

One doesn't get scared, it rather feels like it's taken from some funny TV series from the past, with a tickling, fading charm. - Björn Jansson

The old independent icon Jim Jarmusch has created an irony monster that is unhealthily enamored with its own dreariness. - Fredrik Sahlin

Independent director Jim Jarmusch has delighted us with many fine works, but when he takes on the zombie genre, it unfortunately becomes too self-conscious - and self-indulgent. - Andreas Samuelson

Despite the extreme celebrity worship, despite everyone milking their stereotypical characters throughout film history, and despite everyone being both well-prepared for and in a pleasant way either relieved or even amused by the apocalypse, "The Dead Don't Die" never becomes more than an old man's gripe and a cinematic platitude, no matter how many winks at pop culture and how much disdain for the contemporary it contains. Nothing beyond the eyebrows is lifted. - Kasia Syty

The film is just dry and boring. The characters have zero personality and it's just 'look here is the celebrity'. - Linus Andersen

The film is, as mentioned, somewhat slow-paced in parts, and a bit more drive would not have hurt. Despite this, it is still ultimately a strongly convincing and different zombie slasher, which I at least needed to see. - Jonna Vanhatalo
